Emsworth St George's Celebration

Wednesday23rd April 2014

  Welcome .............

Situated in a quiet corner of south east Hampshire on the shore of Chichester Harbour a celebration of St George's Day has become a regular fixture in the town's calendar. Organised by the Emsworth Business Association the celevrations include a parade by the men and women of the Royal Artillery Regiments based on Thorney Island.  In recent years over £15,000 has been raised for service related charities. This year we will be supporting SSAFA a charity supporting service men and their families.

This year will also be the last parade in Emsworth for 47 Regiment Royal Artillery, from Thorney Island, because they are moving to Larkhill, in Wiltshire. This year they will be accompanied by the Band of The Rifles and the parade will start at 10.30am.

Roads in Central Emsworth will be closed to motor traffic between 1015 and 1145 to allow the parade to take place in safety.

During the parade veterans will be presented with the Emsworth Rose.

After the parade, veterans have been invited back to 47 Regiment Royal Artillery, on Thorney Island, for a buffet lunch.

It is a great opportunity for veterans to mix with the soldiers of today and swap yarns. Should any veteran of any conflict be interested in attending the parade please contact Mr Davies on (023) 9259 8970 or email

The George Regis Jazz Band will entertain the crowds before and after the formal parade.

Free refreshments after the Military Parade will be available at the Emsworth Community Centre’s Assembly Rooms in North Street.
